Welcome to Nestrans 2040
Have your say on the future of transport in the North East for the next 20 years. The Regional Transport Strategy will set the vision and direction for transport provision in the North East, building on the significant improvements that have taken place in recent years. The next Regional Transport Strategyis being developed during 2019/20.
On 24 June 2020, the Nestrans Board members will discuss the draft Regional Transport Strategy along with proposals for a final round of consultation. The draft strategy will be made available for wide-ranging public and stakeholder consultation for a planned ten-week period later this year.
Our Vision and objectives for 2040
“To provide a safer, cleaner, more inclusive and accessible transport system in the north east, which contributes to healthier, more prosperous and fairer communities.”
The RTS also identifies six key priorities to 2040:
- Improved journey efficiencies to enhance connectivity
- Reduced carbon emissions to support net-zero
- Accessibility for all
- A step change in public transport and active travel enabling a 50:50 mode split
- No exeedances of WHO safe levels of emissions
- Zero fatalities on the road network
These priorities have been developed following an extensive consultation exercise undertaken as part of the City Region Deal Strategic Transport Appraisal.
